Festival of Transition

Clothes, furniture, utensils... most commodity items are so easy and cheap to buy nowadays that we rarely think about making them ourselves. If we did, might we take a little more care over them? Might we find that making is more fulfilling than simply shopping?

Britain used to have a thriving system of trade guilds producing all manner of goods. In a world where imports become more expensive due to spiralling fuel prices, we could all do with getting used to making things again. Why not find out what your town or area specialised in in generations past, and see if there are people in the community who can pass on the skills?
