Festival of Transition

This 24 hours, in association with the Big Lunch, is about getting to know the people around you through food.

The Big Lunch is a simple idea from the Eden Project, funded by the Big Lottery Fund, which aims to encourage as many people in the UK as possible to have lunch with their neighbours once a year, for a few hours of community, friendship and fun.

A Big Lunch can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full blown party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic. It’s a great excuse to get out and get know people that live near you.

This year, most lunches are happening on Sunday 3rd June, the same weekend as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. If you’ve already got plans for the 3rd, or want to have another lunch involving your work colleagues, why not host a Big Lunch on the Wednesday 20th June? You can request a free Big Lunch or Big Jubilee Lunch Pack online at www.thebiglunch.com.

Of course, there are plenty of other ways to experience 24 hours of eating together. Inviting neighbours round for dinner? Taking the time to have breakfast with the family instead of rushing off to work? What’s your take on 24 hours of eating together?
