Most of us rarely think about our energy supply. Available in the bat of an eyelid with just the flick of a switch it’s no wonder. This 24 hours is about exploring where our energy comes from, why that matters and how we can start to value it more and use it less. Just a few simple changes can help transform UK energy for the better, for good.
Root out your electricity bill and get to know your supplier. Do they have a green tariff? Are you on it? Have a look on www.electricityinfo.org and see how much of their electricity comes from renewable sources like the sun and the wind? How much of it comes from abroad?
Perhaps you could be using less energy. Most households in the UK could cut their electricity consumption by 10% so why not spend this 24 hours giving it a go. You might be surprised at how easy it is – the Energy Saving Trust has plenty of hints and tips.
Or why not simply spend the day outdoors enjoying the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair and paddling in a nearby river or seaside? These are the natural resources that can be harnessed to power the country. Have a look around and see how many of your neighbours are already doing this with solar panels on their roofs or a wind turbine in their field.
This ‘24 hours of…’ is in partnership with Good Energy, the UK’s only 100% renewable electricity supplier. They believe that together we can change the way the UK makes and uses energy. For good.
